SRHR Data Specialist – Strengthening Health Information Systems

About the role

The UNFPA Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) Data Specialist will support maternal health and SRHR programmes in Timor‑Leste, focusing on strengthening health information and data systems. The position contributes to a DFAT‑funded regional initiative to improve SRMNCAH data, including MPDSR, EmONC and HMIS/DHIS2.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate implementation of Maternal and Perinatal Death Surveillance and Response (MPDSR) workplans, deliver training and support data collection and analysis.
• Support geographic mapping, data validation and reporting for Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (EmONC) services.
• Assist the Ministry of Health and partners in strengthening RMNCAH and GBV data systems within the Health Management Information System (HMIS/DHIS2).
• Facilitate knowledge sharing, capacity‑building workshops and technical meetings.
• Prepare progress updates, annual and donor reports, and ensure financial reporting for DFAT‑funded activities.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Public Health, Medicine, Nursing/Midwifery, Development Studies, Political Science, Social Policy, International Relations or a related field.
• Minimum three years of relevant professional experience, preferably with the UN, NGOs, academia or international development programmes.
• Background in public health, health‑systems strengthening, programme management, monitoring and evaluation, or policy development.
• Fluent English (required).

Required skills

• Health data analysis and information‑systems expertise.
• Experience with Monitoring, Evaluation and Results‑Based Management.
• Technical knowledge of DHIS2 and other health management information systems.
