International Consultant – Implanon NXT National Introduction

About the role

The International Individual Consultant will support the Ministry of Health and UNFPA in launching Implanon NXT across Timor-Leste. The role combines remote technical preparation with on‑site training, mentoring and pilot implementation over a 17‑day consultancy.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct a remote technical review of existing family‑planning training packages and develop adapted training agenda, monitoring tools and competency checklists.
• Provide technical input during a national stakeholder consultation, present international best practices and validate the national introduction plan.
• Lead a five‑day Training of Trainers, delivering sessions on implant characteristics, client counselling, infection control, insertion and removal techniques, and adverse‑event management.
• Oversee the initial pilot rollout in three government facilities, mentor providers, monitor adherence to clinical guidelines and review documentation.
• Prepare comprehensive reports on the ToT, pilot implementation, competency assessments and a national scale‑up plan.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Midwifery, Public Health, Reproductive Health or a related field.
• Minimum five years of experience with contraceptive implant services, including Implanon NXT insertion and removal.
• Proven facilitation and report‑writing skills; experience working with UN agencies or ministries of health is an advantage.
