Emergency Preparedness and Response Officer

About the role

The World Food Programme (WFP) is seeking an Emergency Preparedness and Response Officer to support disaster‑risk management and humanitarian response across the Asia‑Pacific region. The role focuses on strengthening early‑warning systems, coordinating rapid response actions, and enhancing the effectiveness of emergency reserves and cash‑based assistance.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with national, sub‑national and community partners to improve disaster‑management capacities.
• Support the development and implementation of early‑warning monitoring and risk‑communication strategies.
• Assist in the strategic positioning of emergency food reserves and pre‑positioned supplies.
• Facilitate cash‑readiness and adaptive social‑protection measures linked to anticipatory action.
• Contribute to disaster‑risk financing and risk‑transfer initiatives.
• Provide technical input for rapid response planning and post‑disaster assessments.

Required profile

• University degree in disaster management, humanitarian affairs, public health, or a related field.
• Relevant experience in emergency preparedness, response coordination, or humanitarian operations, preferably in the Asia‑Pacific context.
• Strong understanding of early‑warning systems, cash‑based assistance, and disaster‑risk financing.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
