Junior Legal Trainee

About the role

The Junior Legal Trainee will join the National Project Office of the International Trade Centre in Dili, supporting Timor‑Leste’s integration into regional and global trade frameworks. Working on UN premises, the trainee will assist legal and policy experts in analysing legislation, regulations and international agreements relevant to trade, investment and the digital economy.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct legal research on national legislation, regulations and international trade agreements.
• Review, compile and analyse legal and policy documents linked to Timor‑Leste’s commitments to ASEAN, WTO and other frameworks.
• Prepare research notes, briefing materials, summaries and presentations for project use.
• Monitor legal and regulatory developments affecting project activities and maintain up‑to‑date records.

Required profile

• Recent graduate or final‑year student in law or a related field.
• Ability to work under the guidance of the Project Manager and senior legal experts.
• Strong interest in international trade law, regional integration and economic development.
