Deputy General Manager

About the role

This is a commercially focused leadership position within a well‑established container shipping and logistics organisation operating in Timor‑Leste. The Deputy General Manager will drive business growth, strengthen customer relationships and oversee agency performance across the market.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee and monitor appointed shipping agents, ensuring strong customer relationships and high service delivery.
• Supervise agency performance, sales initiatives and marketing activities to maximise revenue and market share.
• Manage key customer relationships, including commercial engagement and freight negotiations.
• Develop and implement marketing and operational plans to achieve business objectives and profitability targets.
• Oversee vessel and land fleet operations, scheduling, productivity and cost‑efficiency across the region.
• Monitor port and terminal developments, competitor activity and market trends to identify new business opportunities.
• Prepare and manage budgets, ensuring effective financial control and reporting.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, agents and key stakeholders across the shipping and logistics network.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Commerce or a related discipline.
• 5‑10 years' experience in trade, sales and marketing within container shipping, logistics or liner shipping.
• Proven experience managing customer relationships and commercial negotiations.
• Strong understanding of port operations, equipment management and shipping industry dynamics.
• Demonstrated leadership experience with the ability to lead cross‑functional teams and drive performance.
• Strong analytical, strategic thinking and problem‑solving skills.
• Excellent stakeholder management, communication and negotiation abilities.
• Adaptable, collaborative and committed to maintaining high professional standards.
