Social Management & Gender Specialist

About the role

SMEC is seeking a Social Management & Gender Specialist to lead the development and implementation of social and gender strategies for infrastructure projects. The role involves close collaboration with contractors, stakeholders, and local communities to ensure socially responsible project delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Draft and update project‑related social norms action plans.
• Design, conduct, and report on consumer satisfaction surveys.
• Monitor and advise contractors on social risk, inclusion, gender‑based violence (GBV), grievance redress mechanisms (GRM), and mitigation measures.
• Approve and oversee the implementation of contractors’ social management plans.
• Facilitate capacity‑building activities for stakeholders and document all actions promptly.
• Prepare six‑monthly progress reports on social aspects of the project.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in social science or a related field.
• Minimum 13 years of professional experience supervising social issues such as compensation, resettlement, community consultation, GRM, labor, and GBV/SEA in infrastructure projects.
• Proven experience in social and community matters and capacity building.
• At least five completed urban water & sanitation assignments in a similar role.
