Communications and Advocacy Officer (Timor-Leste)

About the role

Blue Ventures is seeking a Communications and Advocacy Officer to join its Timor‑Leste team. The role will support the organisation’s mission to rebuild tropical fisheries by capturing and sharing the stories of small‑scale coastal fishers through a range of digital media.

Key responsibilities

• Produce written reports, toolkits, news articles and blog posts that document project learning and impact.
• Create and edit photo stories, videos and social‑media campaigns that highlight the experiences of fishers and communities.
• Use digital storytelling, data visualisation and digital marketing techniques to raise the profile of Timor‑Leste’s fisheries.
• Collaborate with the Regional Senior Communications Officer and global colleagues to ensure consistent messaging.
• Travel regularly to field sites to gather content and engage with partners.

Required profile

• Passion for marine conservation and community‑based fisheries.
• Strong written communication and editing abilities.
• Ability to adapt messages for diverse audiences while showing empathy and cultural sensitivity.
• Self‑starter who can work independently in a fast‑moving, interdisciplinary environment.
