Remote C Engineer – AI Code Review Contractor

About the role

SME Careers is seeking a remote C Engineer on an hourly‑paid contractor basis. You will review AI‑generated C code, low‑level system designs, and technical explanations, while also creating high‑quality reference implementations and step‑by‑step reasoning for complex engineering problems.

Key responsibilities

• Review AI‑generated C code, identify logic, memory, concurrency, and performance errors, and provide detailed feedback.
• Create detailed prompts and reference implementations to guide AI training on systems‑level topics.
• Evaluate, rank, and compare multiple AI responses for correctness, clarity, and safety.
• Fact‑check technical information and write clear, accurate explanations that demonstrate proper methods.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 4+ years of professional experience developing production C software for systems, embedded, or performance‑critical applications.
• Expert‑level proficiency in C, including deep knowledge of pointers, memory management, undefined behavior, and low‑level debugging.
• Strong background in concurrency, operating systems, hardware interaction, and performance optimization.
• Hands‑on experience with build systems, compilers, linkers, and debugging tools.
• Proven experience conducting detailed code reviews and enforcing coding standards.
• Comfort with version control, CI/CD workflows, and automated testing for C projects.
