Environment Management Consultant

About the role

SMEC is seeking an Environment Management Consultant to ensure that construction and infrastructure projects meet all environmental regulations, sustainability standards and best practice guidelines. The role focuses on water supply, sanitation (WASH) and related mechanical, electrical, road and building works, working closely with multidisciplinary teams and local stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and verify compliance of all project activities with relevant environmental legislation and standards.
• Provide technical guidance on environmental management plans, impact assessments and mitigation measures.
• Support the design and supervision of water supply and sanitation infrastructure, ensuring environmentally sound solutions.
• Collaborate with Water and Sanitation facilitators and other engineers to integrate environmental considerations into project delivery.
• Prepare and review environmental reporting, including EIA documentation and regulatory submissions.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• At least three years of experience in construction supervision or project design, preferably on environmentally sensitive projects.
• Demonstrated knowledge of environmental standards for mechanical/electrical systems and road/building construction.
• Strong familiarity with water supply and sanitation (WASH) projects and local environmental conditions.
