Intellectual Property Expert – Remote Contractor

About the role

SME Careers is seeking a remote Intellectual Property (IP) Subject Matter Expert to evaluate and improve AI‑generated legal content. You will review AI responses, create gold‑standard IP analyses, and provide precise feedback that helps train world‑leading AI models.

Key responsibilities

• Develop detailed prompts and gold‑standard IP outputs such as issue analyses, clause rewrites, checklists, and policy‑style guidance.
• Evaluate, rank, and compare AI‑generated IP responses for accuracy, clarity, completeness, and risk awareness.
• Test AI outputs for errors, misleading certainty, confidentiality risks, and bias across copyright, trademark, patent, trade‑secret, and licensing scenarios.
• Fact‑check IP concepts and citations, and write clear model answers that demonstrate correct legal reasoning.

Required profile

• JD/LLB (or equivalent) with active bar membership (or eligibility) in at least one jurisdiction; patent‑office registration is a plus.
• 5+ years of professional experience in IP law (law firm, in‑house, or government) covering any combination of copyright, trademark, patent, trade secrets, or licensing.
• Strong IP issue‑spotting and structured analysis skills, with the ability to communicate complex concepts in plain language.
• Excellent attention to detail and minimum C1 English proficiency.
