Community Development Officer (Fixed-Term)

About the role

World Vision is seeking a Community Development Officer to support transformational development initiatives in Timor-Leste. The role focuses on building trust with community stakeholders, promoting inclusive participation, and ensuring that vulnerable groups are heard and supported.

Key responsibilities

• Promote community understanding of World Vision’s transformational development approach.
• Facilitate stakeholder engagement using locally appropriate language.
• Respond to inquiries and concerns with respect for existing community perceptions.
• Build trusting relationships with community members, emphasizing cultural sensitivity and inclusivity.
• Participate in local events to deepen community knowledge and protect World Vision’s reputation.
• Listen to vulnerable children and stakeholders to identify needs, root causes, and risk factors.
• Gather feedback and complaints, taking appropriate action.
• Lead or support community review and planning meetings to ensure inclusive participation.
• Conduct community assessments to identify WASH and DRR needs and design responsive programs.
• Empower women, girls, people with disabilities, and other minorities to participate fully in decisions.
• Collaborate with local partners, leveraging resources and fostering equitable partnerships.

Required profile

• Ability to communicate respectfully and effectively with diverse stakeholders.
• Experience working with vulnerable groups, including children.
• Strong cultural sensitivity and inclusive mindset.
• Willingness to engage in local events and adapt to community contexts.
