Community Development Officer-2

About the role

World Vision is seeking a Community Development Officer‑2 to support transformational development initiatives in Timor‑Leste. You will act as a bridge between the organization and local communities, ensuring that programmes are culturally appropriate and responsive to the needs of vulnerable children and families.

Key responsibilities

• Promote community understanding of World Vision’s transformational development approach.
• Facilitate stakeholder engagement using locally appropriate language.
• Respond to community inquiries with respect for existing concerns and perceptions.
• Build trusting, inclusive relationships with community members, especially women, girls, persons with disabilities and other minorities.
• Participate in local events to learn about community dynamics and protect World Vision’s reputation.
• Gather feedback, complaints and community input, and act on them appropriately.
• Lead or support community review and planning meetings to ensure inclusive participation.
• Conduct community assessments to identify WASH and disaster risk reduction needs.
• Empower local people with knowledge and skills to address challenges and seize opportunities.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience working with vulnerable communities in a humanitarian or development context.
• Strong cultural sensitivity and ability to communicate respectfully in local languages.
• Commitment to gender equality, inclusion of persons with disabilities and minority groups.
• Ability to work collaboratively with partners and strengthen their organizational capacity.
